la.alanna: I have been working with student on the autism spectrum for some time now. One of my favorite activities to do with students (as well as in my spare time) is cooking! When I brought cooking activities into my classroom I was amazed how students who usually have such a hard time attending, followed new directions, waited their turn, and attended to materials, with ease. It sparked my curiosity when student who usually had such sensory aversions to texture, were more willing to touch and experiment with cooking ingredients, and student who would usually only eat specific ingredients and textures, were more willing to try novel foods. The joy of cooking is something I hope to share with my students as well as the rest of you..enjoy.
